Many of us often wear a spooky, goofy or sexy costume for Halloween. That’s great for us, but we are leaving out our poor ol’ iPhone. Well, that changes now. We are going to show you how to get your iPhone into the Halloween spirit with Apps, wallpapers, cases and just about anything else that fits into the spooky category!

Apps

In Case of Monster Break Glass

IPhone Screenshot 2

This App wins in scary if only for the creepy clown in the picture. Seriously, isn’t that the most frightening thing you’ve ever seen? There isn’t much to the App, but it’s free and it may serve as something of a survival guide in cause you run into to any vampires, demons or evil clowns this Halloween. Still, we can’t ignore this App, because that evil clown gives us the chills. We wouldn’t want to anger him or anything.

Ask the Dead

IPhone Screenshot 1

People are often creeped out by the supernatural–thoughts of ghosts or dead people communicating with them. This one can effectively scare a user, but there’s a catch. It is limited to devices with your friends’ contact information. It uses that to spell names, places and numbers. Still, it will make for a great party trick.

App Store Link: 99 cents

Zombie Weatherman

  Zombie

Zombies make everything better. It’s true. If you don’t believe us, just check out the weather forecast, but presented by a zombie. What’s more? If he’s doing a bad job, you can punch him repeatedly, splattering blood all over the screen. It’s a bit bloody for some, but it’s comical and the zombie can’t be killed…er re-killed. He just gets back up and asks for more.

App Store Link: Free and Paid Version ($1.99)

Abandoned

  IPhone Screenshot 5

Is trick-or-treating a little too childish for you? Then maybe you would rather explore real locations that are said to be abandoned or haunted. Wannabe ghost hunters traveling light may want to carry along this iPhone App so that they can find some of the creepiest, most rundown places around them. Do keep in mind, however, if there aren’t such places around you, this App may not be for you…unless you don’t mind traveling.

App Store Link: $2.99

True Ghost Stories From Around The World

IPhone Screenshot 2

We don’t know how authentic these “True” ghost stories actually are, but that doesn’t matter. It’s all in good fun. It may be great for a Halloween party in which everyone shares scary stories, or a night around the campfire.

App Store Link: 99 Cents

Ghost Radar

IPhone Screenshot 1

What’s a list of spooky Apps without a ghost radar? These tools turn electromagnetic fields into little dots on the screen. Some may argue that wires and other electrical devices can cause these sorts of signals, and they are probably right. The App does have a feature in which it spits out interesting words. This can add to the overall spookiness of the application when it says something that’s relevant. Either way, it’s just another fun way to enjoy the spooktacular Halloween season.

App Store Link: 99 cents

Ghost Capture

IPhone Screenshot 4

Here’s another one of those essential Halloween Apps. Luckily, you can pick up the free version, which is a bit limited, but costs nothing. It’s one of those novelty Apps that you can use to freak out your friends: take a picture in your home, put a spooky ghost into it and email. Most of them will know it was just created through an application or some sort of photo manipulation software, but it’s still fun to pretend!

Skins, Cases and Wallpapers

 3GS

Halloween Skin<br>for iPhone 4

Looking for a way to dress up your iPhone this Halloween? Here’s  a skin that will do the job. It’s more on the cutesy side than the spooky side, like something our old elementary school teachers would have used. Still, if you like seasonal iPhone skins, this is definitely a way to go.

Check it out here: $14.99 and for iPhone 4 ($14.99)

Halloween_iPhone_4_Cute_Skull_002

This one is a hard case for the iPhone 4. It has a cute little skeleton thing with a spider and the words “Happy Halloween” overhead. It costs a little more than the skins, but the advantage to a case it that it will be reusable for several Halloweens to come. That is, until the iPhone’s design changes drastically again.

See it here: $23.74

We’ve Saved the Best for Last

George Romero can probably be credited as the father of the modern zombie film. His interpretation of the walking dead: flesh-eating ghouls that stumbled around trying to feed on the living has created what many of us have come to accept as the zombie.

Here’s the Movie that started it all, Night of the Living Dead.

Free Streaming Version

The above version is a free App, but it is a stream

Now You’re Ready…

Now you know of a handful of Apps, accessories and other things that will make your Halloween an awesome one. You can watch Night of the Living Dead on your iPhone or iPad as you huddle up on the couch with some popcorn, read scary stories or take photos and add a ghostly presence to freak out your friends.

Either way, there is plenty of fun to be had with the App Store, and there are literally hundreds of Apps that will help you have a spooky Halloween.

By the way, if you are still having a hard time coming up with a costume idea, check out our favorite awesomely geek costumes for inspiration: Here.

The World’s Best TV Remote [SONY INTERNET TV]

Sony Internet TV was just announced, and while it’s awesome, it’s mostly awesome because of what Google TV brings to the table. The four actual TVs are nice and all, and the Blu-Ray player is great, but it’s what Google TV allows you to do that makes them great. So what separates Sony Internet Television from other Google TV offerings like the Logitech Revue?

The remote.

tv-controller8

The design of the Sony Internet TV remote was modeled after the Sony Playstation 3 controller and it isn’t surprising – this thing makes operating your TV fun and almost game like. The navigation is natural, and while a few nuances take a bit getting used to, mostly anyone who has played Playstation or XBOX will jump right into the experience and forget that learning curves exist.

Check out how familiar this looks/feels in the hand:

tv-controller2

Just like a gaming controller, each hand clutches a side of this remote with your thumbs doing most of the work. The layout is compact enough so that you can easily reach every button yet large and spacious enough so that typos and mistakes are pretty much non-existent.

tv-controller1

The bulk of the main area is taken up by the full QWERTY keyboard which I absolutely loved. Get familiar with that little dedicated search button in the lower left, because with the Omnibox searching everything from the TV Schedule and your DVR to the web and YouTube, you’ll find yourself using it an awful lot. That’s part of what makes the Google TV experience so great… browsing TV is redefined into a Matrix-like experience with tons of options flying by you, selecting whatever you desire.

On the top left you’ll see the D-Pad which allows you to navigate through menus and options. On the top right you’ll see Android’s familiar Home, Menu and Back buttons along with a fourth “Dual View” button that, for all intents and purposes, provides picture-in-picture with whatever you’re currently doing. Those buttons encompass a trackpad that allows you to operate a mouse for clicking and selecting links and actions that require a bit more precision. I’m hoping you can change the tracking of the mouse to speed it up a bit as it was a tad slow for my liking, but that’s a minor complaint.

tv-controller7

The top of the remote has L1 and R1 trigger or bumperish buttons. These buttons are supposedly to aid in scrolling (the left side) and zooming (the right side) but I never found an instance where I was manipulating them properly. Even so, I can anticipate they’ll be used quite often and their placement, because of the similarity with gaming, makes them pretty impeccable.

If you were to look at pictures of the remote itself you might not realize how perfectly sized it is. We pulled out the Nexus One and took a mini-photoshoot comparing the two so you could size it up at a few different angles and we think you’ll agree – especially when you get it in your hand – that it has the makings of an awesomely fun TV experience.

tv-controller4

tv-controller5

tv-controller3

Just like many other gaming remotes, this bad boy is powered by your regular old Double A batteries and actually, a picture of the back battery pack opened up also gives a good indication of the size:

tv-controller6

Beau-tee-full.

Keep in mind that this remote, at least with the Sony TV experience and Dish TV, works with RFID. That means no matter where the remote is or which way it’s pointed, your actions are still going to properly control the TV. No more pointing your infrared laser at just the right angle or trying to bounce it off walls.

If you ask me, this is hands down the Best TV Remote in the World. The Sony Internet TV Remote is an awesome piece of hardware that simply gets it right. The size is just right, the layout is familiar and usable, the QWERTY is large and spacious, yet the total package is compact and simple. It’s organized in a way that you will likely feel like you’re riding a bike and just start Googling and navigating away, but for those who need a helping hand, this remote doesn’t seem overwhelming or complex. Getting the hang of it is simple.

I’m 98% sure I’ll end up either buying one of the medium sized Sony Internet TVs or at least the Blu-Ray player, simply because I want the remote so bad. I think it will optimize my experience with Google TV. If you’re in need of a TV anyways I would strongly consider buying the Sony Internet TVs and if you don’t yet have a Blu-Ray player, you should snag this one because it just became the best Blu-Ray player on the market. It’s tough to explain without sounding geeky, but I love this remote and along with Google TV it is – in my opinion – the World’s Best TV Remote. At least for the time being.

By the way… when and if Sony starts including Google TV with their PS3 and next gen consoles? Pshhh… game over. Those things will fly off the shelves like whoa.

TweetDeck Dumps Some Stats, Shows HTC Glacier Still in the Wild

TweetDeck likes collecting data. Most companies do, in fact. Not all of them like to share their data, though, but TweetDeck’s just vomited a nice helping of data regarding usage of the Android version of their Twitter client which is still in beta. I’m going to skip all of the boring stuff regarding device and version distribution, but there are a few fun takeaways to be had.

First of all: the HTC Glacier is still out there. At least three people have been using TweetDeck on the device. I’m sure this will make some of our readers (coughKELLERcough) happy, but we still have no idea about the status of this device. All we know is that it’s likely headed to T-Mobile and will be a high-end monster of a cellphone.

Tweetdeck-dataporn

The Motorola Droid 2 Global Edition is also still making its rounds. We used to be keen on calling this device the Motorola Droid Pro, but we already know what happened with that. Here are the rest of the obscure pieces of data gathered from their latest report:

  • Android Gingerbread is real, and there’s a substantial amount of people already testing it in the field
  • We’ve all seen YouTube videos with Nokia N900 and HTC HD2 running Android. Now we have proof. 103 Tweedeck Android users had HD2’s, and 6 of them had Nokia N900. There was also one HTC Kaiser user spotted out there, too. What do you know – there still are some people running Android on the good old HTC TyTN II…
  • The rumored uber fast HTC Glacier is also out there in the field, probably undergoing some tests. 3 Tweetdeck users were caught with it
  • While Motorola Droid 2 Global Edition missed the CTIA announcement date, it seems that it is still out there somewhere, and may be announced soon.

Everything else they’ve found can be had at their website.

Cellular South’s Galaxy S to be Named Samsung Showcase

Even though Cellular South officially announced this device as the Samsung Galaxy S , Samsung’s website says something completely different up against the other five carriers offering the phone: it’ll be called the Samsung Showcase. We still haven’t been able to uncover more details than that, but we’re one step closer to one of the most exciting device launches coming out of Cellular South. If the HTC Desire just isn’t cutting it, then the Samsung Showcase most definitely will.

Windows Phone 7 is Launching: Everything You Need to Know

Tweet Why Windows Phone 7 today?

The Start screen on Windows Phone 7 puts what’s most important to phone users front-and-center, making it obvious and accessible

Why Windows Phone 7 today? Because Microsoft running full-force with launching a new product, a little something we have been paying close attention to called Windows Phone 7. Windows Phone 7 is Microsoft’s new mobile operating system, and can arguably be called their re-entry into the mobile world. It becomes apparent that Microsoft is aiming for a new level of integration with this OS as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said during today’s media event, “Everyone should be able to take a look at Windows Phone 7 and say, ‘This represents me.’”

What do you need to know about WP7 before launch? Let’s Take a look:

1) Carriers

4) Advertisements

Microsoft is also rolling out the advertisements for Windows Phone 7. There are already a couple of TV Spots which are viewable online. You know, just in case you are that interested in the commercials:

5) Notable Apps From All Our Favorite Platforms

Just a handful of the thousands of popular applications that are making their way to WP7:

Netflix, IMDB, Ebay App, AT&T U-Verse App, Facebook, YouTube, iHeartRadio and Slacker Radio are all here.

6) Microsoft’s Apps

Microsoft is also going to be providing  WP7 users with their own set of Apps. Many Xbox LIVE Arcade games are making their way to WP7.

The Photos app is another nice one that is built-in to your handset. This one shows your photo library, but the interesting part is that it allows for the user to view their stored photos as well as their Facebook photos side-by-side within the same album.

Microsoft is doing their best to give users the full Outlook experience on their phone.

Zune Pass seems to work much like Pandora and Slacker Radio. Type something up and the phone will start streaming the music you search.

7) Xbox LIVE Integration

The WP7 Games Hub houses games, namely those found within Xbox LIVE Arcade (XBLA), and Microsoft has done a good deal in ensuring that there is a healthy library of compatible games ready to roll out before the end of the year. Electronic Arts (EA) is on board to provide Need for Speed Undercover, Tetris and The Sims 3 from the start.

Worth a quick mention is that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will be getting AT&T’s U-Verse in November and as Microsoft’s Corporate VP, Joe Belfiore, said, “Windows phone will be the only phone that gives you access to games that work with your Xbox.” That’s right, they are taking this one seriously.

Users/Gamers can check out their Avatars and customize right from their phone as well as manage their friends on Xbox LIVE and play some of their XBLA games directly from their phone.

8) Other Bits of Useful Information

- It seems that we may see some carrier-exclusive applications. A game called Llo Milo is for their Xbox LIVE Arcade service, but is only available on AT&T phones. It will be interesting to see how this is used in the future.

- The company announced that copy and paste will be coming early 2011. No big deal, it will come when it does.

- Phone can take pictures even while locked by simply holding down the camera button. This will make those picture moments much better. We’ve had our own times when something worth taking a picture of happens but by the time we get past the iPhone’s unlock screen and launch the camera App, the opportunity is gone. This will be fun.

- Unlock Screen has calendar/event data, making it easy to see things while simply pulling out your phone, and minimizing the need to launch applications to check dates.

- Outlook will detect scheduling conflicts within an email. For example, if  a friend invites you to a party and gives you a date and time, but your calendar says you have a meeting that day at that time, your phone will alert you and link you to the conflicting time on your calendar.

- Uses Bing search, which is likely no surprise, as Bing is Microsoft’s search engine.

- Holding the search button will prompt a voice search.

- Cloud integration. Phone has sync-to-the-cloud function, and content can be quickly synced via your profile on Microsoft’s Live.com. This will also be handy if you lose your phone. You can make it ring remotely.

Overall

Microsoft is hitting the mobile market head-on with their new OS. They have the carriers and the manufacturers. They are hoping to simplify the experience by giving users less things to tap on as they navigate the phone’s menu. Their goal seems to be to simplify the whole process and make one of the most easy-to-use consumer phones on the market so that users spend less time looking down at the screen and more time with the things that matter in life, friends and family. It’s an interesting approach and it’s how they are marketing the OS in their ads. We will have to see if that approach helps them sell the phone.

It begins early November.
