Android to See Flash 10.1 In Second Half of 2010

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen recently told Fox Business that Flash 10.1 should be coming to Android sometime in the second half of the year. We had expected to see 10.1 makes its way to Android phones sooner, but it seems Adobe will hold good on their word after failing to produce a beta of the platform running on Android at last year’s MAX Conference.

flash

Straight from the horses mouth:

“We have a number of excited partners who are working aggressively with us to bring Flash to their devices, whether they be smartphones as well as handsets, and so companies like Google or RIM or Palm are going to be releasing versions of Flash on smartphones and tablets in the second half of the year.”

Android won’t be the only breed of smartphone to receiving full Flash support, and it is no surprise that Apple is missing from the list after becoming embroiled in a battle over Flash support on iPhone.

The bad news is Flash 10.1 won’t be getting any love on older handsets, as at a bare minimum phones taking advantage of Flash will require an ARM Cortex-A8 processor. Droid and Nexus One owners are covered, and this shouldn’t be an issue for upcoming handsets, but those who do not own one of these devices will be left without full Flash support.

Now that the cats out of the bag , there isn’t much more to be learned about the HTC Droid Incredible itself. We know that it is coming the 29th of April and can be pre-ordered on the 19th, and we know that it will be $199.99 with a new 2-year contract on Verizon. But now we have an exclusive look at the HTC Incredible internal launch package detailing the phones specs, a plethora of accessories, and a rather hilarious look at the target customer for the HTC Incredible

incredible target audience

Now if that just isn’t the spitting image of the type of people that frequent the HTC Incredible Forum over at AndroidForums, I don’t know what is!

It looks like future Incredible owners will have plenty of options in the accessories department, and while most shown are generic Bluetooth and headphone devices, there are quite a few case options and holsters that will be available for this phone. Also post-launch, users can expect a desktop charging cradle and extended battery to become available.

Go take a peak at the document for yourself and let us know how you feel about Verizon’s stereotyping of you, the beloved HTC Incredible fans!

Free Developer Phones Begin To Arrive!

Remember when Google promised free phones to developers with popular applications – a Motorola Droid or Nexus One to be exact? They’re finally making good on their promise, and to be honest, it didn’t take long. Brenton Klik, maker of the 2nd most popular flashlight app on Android Market (FlashLight), has just received his brand new Nexus One with a nice letter from Google.

developer-message

free-developer-phone

For those with bad eyes who don’t want to squint:

Dear Developer,

We’re pleased to present you with a complimentary Nexus One – the latest Android-powered phone from Google. The enclosed Nexus One is ready to use right out of the box – it can be setup online either through a carrier network if you already have an activated SIM card, or simply over Wi-Fi network. The attached document provides tips and tricks that will help you get started on Nexus One. Also attached are pointers to resources for using Nexus One and developing applications on the Android platform.

We are very excited about Nexus One, and hope the enclosed unit will help you advance your development efforts on the Android Platform.

Best wishes,
The Android Team

I’m sure it’ll take a long time for Google to get all of the free phones out, but they’re at least beginning the process of chipping away. We’re eagerly awaiting ours so we can hold another contest! Meanwhile, we’ve heard some of the developers from the DC Dev Lab (promised the day before) are still waiting for theirs – we’ll keep our fingers crossed for you!

[Thanks Brent!]

But don’t forget Sammy has some other hot devices out there and just a few days ago they whipped up some uber corniness with “Adventures of Behold 2 Man” to promote  [wait for it] the Samsung Behold 2.

It starts off ridiculously (and purposefully) corny and seems like an epic fail that I almost turned off, but it actually gets funnier, so watch the whole thing. Call me a nerd but I’m kind of eager to see Part 2 now…

samsung-galaxy-sAt CTIA’s opening day keynotes, Samsung took the opportunity to confirm what we expected – the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S. They promised a full event for media immediately following (so its happening right now) and a release to EVERYONE at the event later in the day.

The unveiling came after a discussion about Samsung’s new 3-pronged approach for their smartphones:

  1. Screen – Samsung’s Super AMOLED displays are 20% brighter and 80% less reflective
  2. Speed – Samsung’s 1 GHz processor will power dense multimedia and switching between apps without a hitch
  3. Content – new collaborations with top content providers will bring full length movies, TV shows, videos, books, magazines and more to Samsung Android phones

The Samsung Galaxy S was announced as the first phone to take advantage of these features for Samsung in the new smartphone race, with the sExpect to learn all the nitty gritty details about the Samsung Galaxy S later today, with hands on videos and image galleries from around the web. Stay tuned!
