Inside the San Francisco Fire Department’s Wooden Ladder Factory [Video]

Sounds crazy (wood + fire?) but the SFFD’s one of the few to still use wooden ladders—they don’t conduct electricity—which they build with Douglas fir that’s been matured for 15 years.

Some of you who pre-ordered your T-Mobile G2 from T-Mobile themselves will be receiving them before the weekend kicks off .

Some of you who pre-ordered your T-Mobile G2 from T-Mobile themselves will be receiving them before the weekend kicks off. For everyone else, you’re either going to have to wait until October 6th or bank on this internal screenshot from Radio Shack sent from an anonymous tipster that says they’ll be offering it October 3rd (which is a Sunday) for $149.99 if you’re a new customer or $199.99 if you’re upgrading.

g2-radioshack-early

We’re not sure how they got the green light to sell this phone that early (especially ahead of Best Buy), but considering that truckloads of the G2 are leaving warehouses and headed to stores already, we can’t imagine they won’t be ready to deliver three days ahead of schedule. We’ll be calling our local Radio Shack store shortly to see if they know anything about this. You might want to gear up to do the same. Click on the picture to read the full text (it’s highly illegible otherwise), or just wander below as we’ve gone through the trouble of transcribing the important bits for you.

The new T-Mobile G2 is almost here!! The G2 (1701089) is T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ smartphone, leveraging the new HSPA+ network (available in select markets) that connects you at 4G speeds. Starting Sunday, October 3, you will be able to offer the G2 to your customers!

Overview: The G2 includes an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor, and it comes with a 3.7″ WVGA touch-panel screen, 4GB of internal memory, and an external microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB cards (an 8GB card is included). Other features include integrated voice action, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus, and a 720p HD video recorder.

Price: At launch, the G2 will be available for $149.99 on new two-year activations and $199.99 on two-year upgrades, FlexPay, and add-a-line activations. Android data plan activation is required.

Fans were distraught as third party retailers Best Buy and Radioshack opened their flood gates before T-Mobile even mentioned word of a pre-order date. Some of you who stuck with T-Mobile might be getting the last laugh, however, as it’s been reported that some devices have been shipped out as of today.

Apple recently filed a trademark application for the AirPrint. The Goods and Services relating to the trademark sound just like what we know up to this point:

IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: Computer software; computer software to facilitate printing; printers; computer hardware and peripheral devices

IC 038. US 100 101 104. G & S: Telecommunications services; electronic transmission of data and documents between digital devices and printers; providing wireless telecommunications via electronic communications networks; transmission of data by electronic means

IC 040. US 100 103 106. G & S: Printing; online processing, developing, and delivery of digital images

IC 042. US 100 101. G & S: Application service provider (ASP) services featuring computer software

We are curious to see if Apple will start calling wireless printing across all their machines AirPrint. It woud definitely help pull together that unified environment they are always looking to create.

The second Love and Appiness convening is going down in just three days – that’s September 23rd – and tickets are flying as we inch closer and closer to the evening wine and dine meet up at Roe’s in San Francisco. Seats are limited so it’s necessary to RSVP and it’s a good idea to do it fast as this event is free and seats most likely won’t last. What exactly will be going on, though? Take a look at this agenda to get an idea of how eventful this two-hour night will be. (especially if you’re an application developer – aspiring or otherwise – who needs a good idea on how to tackle this thing we call the Android market.)

love and apiness

While you’re at it, you can also register for your tickets at that same link. (just look at the top of the page, and you’re good to go.) Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts prevent us from attending the event, but we do remain a proud sponsor and we hope some of you Phandroids can cut a slice of time out of your Thursday to head out for this. What else do you have to do on a Thursday, anyway? TV sucks on Thursdays. And you get an awesome T-Shirt, so stop lagging and register!

Samsung Galaxy S Girly Edition by Cosmetics Maker Aveda

Ok, it’s not actually called the “Girly” edition. My mistake.

This image has no alt text

Ok, it’s not actually called the “Girly” edition. My mistake. It might as well be, though, as Samsung’s announcing the upcoming availability of the Samsung Galaxy S Femme Aveda. You get a hot pink phone obviously (which some males might find desirable), but it also comes preinstalled with an Aveda app and is packaged inside a special casing that – alongside the phone – comes loaded with beauty products. Doesn’t look too bad for the beauty-conscious divas out there. It’s reported that only 5,000 of these will be sold so be sure to get your hands on one quickly if this is to your liking.
