Employing the usual “cords and devices just completely all over the place” method works for some people (like me), but those looking for more order on their desks will dig this dock. Charging, syncing, and storage on one minimalist platform. More »

Members of MIT’s Bits and Atoms lab visited Afghanistan some time ago. While there, they showed locals how to turn pieces of board, wire, a plastic tub and some cans into reflectors for a wireless network. The result? Fab Fi.
The project resulted in 25 simultaneous live nodes being up in the city of Jalalabad and residents being able to enjoy a stable connection all over the place. Locals are even expanding the network by adding more reflectors and routers. There are some difficulties in actually obtaining the routers though, but the MIT crew—now dubbed the Jalalabad Fab Lab—are helping resolve those by shipping routers over.
On the surface this is a tale of some clever University MacGyvers, a small place in Afghanistan, and a makeshift Wi-Fi network, but the greater idea is that people came together to provide a new method of communication to an area where Skype calls and quick Google searches weren’t a common luxury. Sure, now the area is exposed to time wasters and Internet porn, but it’s also been provided some new opportunities to learn and explore. [Free Range International via Futurismic via Boing Boing]

The HTC Incredible has been popping up all over the place with various sneak peak photos and specs. We told you back in December that it would be launching on Big Red so it is no surprise that it is now popping up in Verizon’s inventory. Although there is no official launch date, the fact that it is popping up in inventory is a good sign.

If you’ve been waiting for something INCREDIBLE from VZW are cannot wait for their eventual launch of the Nexus One, then your wait seems to be coming to a close. As we have seen in the past, once a device hits the inventory system, the launch comes shortly after. This will be a great device for VZW and hopefully we will see it soon!

I’m writing this post from the Motorola Devour. To write a review of worthwhile substance you have to know the subject matter and in this instance I get a lot of hands on time with the keyboard.
I was expecting a lot out of this keyboard and at first was a bit disappointed but there is definitely a learning and familiarity curve when it comes to keyboard layouts and feel.
I promised a bunch of reviews and insight today – and I will provide some of that – but my full review will come tomorrow morning once I’ve had more time to really dig in and review things in a little more depth. Fingers crossed I can meet this timeframe – I will be pulling an all nighter either way.
If you are interested I’m writing this from the wordpress application on android market. Typing in the browser didn’t work so well and it wouldn’t let me put the cursor in the post body text box. Oh well.
Stay tuned for more moto devour!!!
PS: That is a picture of my tail-light taken from the Devour. If there is one thing I’ve learned thus far from this post, it’s that writing Wordpress posts in a mobile browser and through the wordpress android app both suck.
PPS: now I’m typing this on my droid keyboard for reference sake. There is definitely a tradeoff. Dedicated number row is nice but there are some drawbacks as well. I will be sure to share the details in a video review.

The Astonishing Tribe has been developing a new augmented reality application for mobile devices.
The Astonishing Tribe has been developing a new augmented reality application for mobile devices. They built a software application called Recognizr that allows your phone to see who a person is and what social networking they are connected to. It will also link whoever it sees back to your address book profile and will display their name, address, phone number, and basically whatever information you stored for that particular contact in your address book.

After they demonstrated Recognizr at this years Mobile World Congress, Dan Gärdenfors, head of user experience research at The Astonishing Tribe, said they would partner up and bring the concept to the Android Market. Dan also says that there will be a commercial application launching within the next few months. Check out Recognizr in action:
Looks pretty cool from the demo video. It is a nice toy to play with and have your phone recognize your friends and be able to upload the photo to Facebook.. and have it automatically tag everyone in the photo based on the profiles you have set up for Recognizr. This looks like some very interesting software and certainly adds to your Android phone’s “coolness” factor.
