Samsung’s back at it in London. First, you guys got the chance to become “Mobilers” and got to keep a free Galaxy S just by walking around and using it. Now, Samsung’s setting up shop to hand people some Samsung Galaxy Tabs to do the same. You don’t get the added cherry on top of keeping it this time, though, as they want their merchandise back after 48-hours. I still wouldn’t give up a chance to walk around with one of the hottest devices of the upcoming holiday season. (Let’s not think about the price here, folks.)

The Promotion starts in 4 days – that’s October 18th – and you can find it at a London tube station on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. Those stations would be Liverpool Street, Balham, Highbury, and Islington or Ealing Broadway. I recommend you guys wake up early because you might have some nasty competition. Read on for the full details.

SAMSUNG INVITES COMMUTERS TO ‘TUBE TEST’ THE GALAXY TAB

Samsung’s tablet device available for 48 hour loans before it hits the shops

London, UK, October 14th, 2010 – Samsung is inviting selected members of the public to be the first in the UK to get their hands on its hotly anticipated Galaxy Tab, ahead of the UK launch on 1st November. Ideal for commuters, lucky Londoners will be invited to ‘tube-test’ the Samsung Galaxy Tab before it hits the shops so they can experience how it could transform their daily journey to work. The perfectly portable device is small enough to fit into a suit pocket or handbag so it doesn’t weigh you down and can be used one-handed, great for those mornings when you can’t get a seat. Add to that its incredible entertainment and communication and the daily commute will never be the same again. Just make sure you don’t miss your stop!

From Monday 18th October 2010, a limited number of Galaxy Tabs will be available for loan over a two-week period from one of four London tube stations: Liverpool Street, Balham, Highbury & Islington or Ealing Broadway. Each device will be lent for 48 hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. People wanting to get involved, should apply by sending an email to galaxytab@tubetest.co.uk or speak to a member of the Galaxy Tab team outside one of the four tube stations.

The Galaxy Tab offers a world of possibilities, and Samsung wants to encourage the ‘tube-testers’ to try something new and escape the daily grind. Download or stream films and TV to watch on its TFT-LCD screen, edit the pictures you have never got round to looking at or use the Readers Hub to read books or magazines – perhaps try a different newspaper by getting it delivered daily directly to the Galaxy Tab?

Whether you want to read a newspaper, a magazine or book; check your emails; surf the web or play a game on the way to work, the 7 inch Galaxy Tab offers it all (Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash Player 10.1). It’s the perfect travelling companion, keeping you entertained on the tube or bus and even helping you find your way when you arrive using Google Maps.

It’s not all about entertainment, the Galaxy Tab is practical too and if you’re keen to get your work started early, you can use the Galaxy Tab to share and edit documents.

Travelling in a taxi or waiting on a station platform and need to contact someone? The Galaxy Tab is your perfect partner a you can contact friends or colleagues via voice and video calling, e-mail, instant messaging, SMS/MMS and access to all your favourite social networks.

Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “The portability of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is one of its key features – you can literally fit it in your pocket or your handbag so it’s great for people who spend time commuting to and from work each day. At Samsung we thought what better way to showcase this than to give Londoners the opportunity to test the Galaxy Tab for themselves before they can buy them in the shops. We’re keen to hear what they have to say.”

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will be available in the UK from 1st November across all major networks, key high street and out of town electrical retailers and online such as Carphone Warehouse, Dixons Store Group and T-Mobile.

Registration opens from 8am Friday 15th October.

HP Photosmart eStation C510 Printer/Tablet Bundle on Sale Now for $399.99

The unusual combo of printer/Android tablet in the HP Photosmart eStation C510 might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’ve been needing a new printer and wouldn’t mind having a companion tablet powered by Android then you can order it starting today at HP’s website and participating resellers. We honestly wouldn’t recommend getting this for the tablet alone – especially considering the price – but it’s a free country. Just don’t come back angry when you find out that the tablet isn’t what you expected it to be. [via Engadget ]

Sprint has just used the CTIA fall conference taking place now to debut three new Android devices: Samsung Transform, Sanyo Zio and LG Optimus S. Also, the carrier announced its Sprint ID personalization tool. Of the trio, Transform impresses the most, with its high end specifications.

OS: Android 2.2

Launch date is October 31st, while the price is around $49.99 with 2 year commitment and $100 mail in rebate.

LG Optimus T for T-Mobile

T-Mobile’s announcing that they’ll be carrying the budget-priced LG Optimus T to bring a middle-of-the-road Android experience for a very affordable price. It comes with a 3.2-inch touchscreen with Swype, a 3.2-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, and Android 2.2. From the looks of things it’s almost the exact same device as the LG Optimus S for Sprint (save for Sprint ID, and the T will have LG’s custom launcher) – which we’ll have video of  shortly – and if that’s the case it won’t disappoint for the price.

Android Market Now Converting to Local Currencies

We have all been there. Surfing the Android Market only to stumble upon an app listed in a foreign currency. Sure, we can do some deductive reasoning to try to pinpoint where the price lies on a local scale, or we could even bust out a currency converter to figure out the exact price. But Google is making that predicament irrelevant as the Android Market is now doing the math for us and spitting out approximate local values for apps published in other countries.

Prices that have been converted will show a “~” in front to denote an approximate rate based on current exchange values. If there is no “~” then the app was already locally priced. The interesting part arrises when you go to purchase the app. Google checkout will revert to displaying the pricing in the currency of the country it originates from. Not a huge deal given that you most likely didn’t forget the conversion on the way over, but still a little hiccup in the system.

Has anyone else noticed the change in the Market? Good to see Google is finally beginning to address some of the bigger issues that have made the Android Market a less than stellar resource for purchasing apps.

Tablet of the Day: Disgo’s 7-inch 1GHz Slate

We’re met with another day of the week and no shortage of Android tablets in sight. This one’s from a company called Disgo and doesn’t offer much different from any of their competitors attacking the market in its price range of £180. A resistive WVGA touchscreen, 1GHz prcoessor, 256MB of RAM, 2GB of internal storage, WiFi N, microSD card slots, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and mini USB ports make up the usual bits

It does offer something a bit more extra, however, in micro HDMI-out port. That alone might be worth the price of admission for some of you, but everything else is pretty standard. We’re sure there’s no Android market to be had with this so you’ll have to look to third party marketplaces to get the apps you want on it.

Hire Out this Remote Controlled Android for Your Next Event

Quick. How do you get the attention of a room full of Japanese people

Quick. How do you get the attention of a room full of Japanese people? Robots. Big remote controlled robots. And that is exactly what this RIC Android did at the Google Developer’s Day in Tokyo. The big green Droid can walk, move its arms, and open wide to reveal a set of speakers all through commands sent over Wi-Fi from an Android phone.

And Google wants to hire the thing out to those willing to pay the price. No, this ain’t a two cent hooker. This big boy will go for $6,200 a day. A small price to pay if you need to keep those Japanese business men in town to decide whether or not they want to invest in your app startup busy all day.
